Afghanistan was shaken once again on Wednesday after a 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck the country, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
The quake’s epicentre was about 300 km from Kabul and roughly 379 km away from Jammu & Kashmir, NCS said in a statement. It hit the region at 12:19 pm IST, at a depth of 47 km.
“EQ of M: 4.2, On: 06/08/2025 12:19:18 IST, Lat: 36.54 N, Long: 71.52 E, Depth: 47 Km, Location: Afghanistan,” the agency posted on X.
This marks the third earthquake in just 10 days for Afghanistan.
- August 2 – A powerful 5.5 magnitude quake struck at a depth of 87 km.
- July 29 – A 4.8 magnitude quake shook the region at a shallow depth of 10 km, making it more vulnerable to aftershocks.
While no immediate reports of damage or casualties have been confirmed, the repeated tremors are raising concerns in the quake-prone region.
